Join us in the Netherlands for a conference exploring the intersection of architecture, urbanism, and research through two cities that exemplify the Dutch culture of design innovation.
Dutch innovation is rooted in a long tradition of collaboration and collective problem solving, crafted through centuries of managing water and shaping the delta landscape. This shared approach influenced how architecture, urbanism, and landscape work together in the Netherlands, producing integrated spatial strategies and inventive responses to complex environmental and social challenges.
Rotterdam represents this culture of innovation in practice. As Europe’s largest port and a global laboratory for contemporary architecture it has continually reinvented itself since its destruction during World War II. Today, it stands as a city where bold architecture, experimental urban planning, and infrastructure converge. Shaped by the river and the delta, Rotterdam demonstrates how design can respond to climate change, density, and mobility while creating vibrant public spaces. Through guided architectural tours, site visits, and lectures we will explore the city’s evolving waterfronts, innovative housing, and public landscapes that have made Rotterdam a growing international center for forward-looking design.
Delft offers a contrasting perspective through research and education. Known for its historic canal lined city center, the city is also home to one of Europe’s leading centers for architectural and urban research: TU Delft. At the university and within its international network of scholars and practitioners, new ideas are developed around climate resilience, circular building, landscape systems, and the future of cities in delta environments. Design research emerging from Delft continues to influence design and engineering worldwide.
During the conference, Dutch and international architects, urbanists, and researchers will present their work and participate in discussions on emerging design challenges and opportunities emerging in South Holland.
Explore the innovations of Rotterdam and Delft with us, two cities where practice and research together demonstrate how integrated design can shape resilient and livable urban landscapes.
