AIA CE Conference - Marseille - The New Mediterranean Landscape
Please join us for the next AIA-CE conference in historic Marseille, France’s second largest city on the Mediterranean Sea. Established in the 6th century BC, Marseille is attracting attention across Europe for its vibrant cultural life, diversity, climate and considerable public and private investment. 

DATES: - Thursday 8 October, to Sunday 11 October, with optional extension on Monday 12 October

PROGRAM OUTLINE:- The conference will kick-off on Thursday evening, 08 October at 18:00 at an iconic bar & restaurant on the Old Port with a short introduction to Marseille.  

The program starts with visits of vestiges of the original Greek harbour and a walking tour of the historic Marseille – le Panier and Vieille Charité. During three full days of visits and presentations we will discover:

  • Unité d’Habitation - guided tour in small groups of Le Corbusier’s iconic post-war housing in a parklike setting  

  • Fernand Pouillon’s extraordinary post-war architecture along the Old Harbour

  • MuCEM harbor-front museum (Rudy Ricciotti) guided tour of the building and rooftop terrace 

  • Fort St-Jean (13th-17th centuries), Mediterranean garden and the extraordinary access bridges; 

  • IMVT - Institut Méditerranéen de la Ville et des Territoires (architecture school of Marseille)

  • Walking tour of Euroméditerranée, the largest urban transformation project in the city

  • Speaker presentations at la Tour La Marseillaise (Jean Nouvel)

  • Parc des Aygalades (urban flood park on brownfield site) presentation by Michel Desvigne

  • La Joliette and Arenc walking tour of the industrial heritage and waterfront projects

  • CMA CGM headquarters presented by the office of Zaha Hadid

  •  Saturday evening dinner and keynote speaker at Ciel Rooftop with breath taking views of the city

  • Relaxing Sunday boat ride to the Frioul Islands for walking tour of the islands including historic district by JL Sert and lunch at a local seafood restaurant

  • Optional Monday visit of Aix-en-Provence
