International Conference and Chapter Meeting
4D Collage : Design Elevates | 19-22 April 2012
This unique junction at the eastern rim of the Mediterranean Sea, where Europe meets Asia and Africa, where the desert meets the sea, has witnessed much of Western and Eastern culture’s fundamental controversies with respect to a search for the Divine, as recorded in some of the more important texts of human history.
Today, with the addition of a rich and diverse population, Israel has become a complex and modern place, the source of many technological, artistic, and cultural inventions, in the throes of realizing itself as a uniquely cosmopolitan society based on deep roots in ancient history.
The conference will be a voyage to the “research” zone. This exploration, through lectures and tours, will consider how architecture connects the past with the present, the role of public architecture in creating a tapestry of multi-cultural places, how “Heavenly” Jerusalem allows “Earthly” Tel Aviv to exist, and the development of Green Architecture from the pioneer state.
Tours, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Design Museum Holon, Bauhaus White City, and The Peres Peace House, will illustrate how design elevates the future of coming generations and how good design creates good business and a better life now.
An optional one day extension will be a trip to Masada and the Dead Sea.
— Conference committee: Yael S. Kinsky AIA (Chair), Scott Sivan AIA, Ryan Clarke LEED AP BD+C
