International Conference and Chapter Meeting
21st Century Renaissance | 18-21 April 2013
Join us in Lyon—France’s second-largest city, famed for its historical landmarks and today a capital of business, architecture and gastronomy.
Lyon is redeveloping the 150 hectare district “Confluence”, just south of the city center, with many completed and ongoing projects to see. We will visit the Parc de la Saône by landscape architect Michel Desvigne, the Pavillon des Salins by architects Jakob+MacFarlane, and the major works planned for the project’s second phase, overseen by Herzog & de Meuron.
When complete, Confluence will double Lyon’s historic center, in an industrial area at the confluence of the Saône and the Rhône. The Cité Internationale, by Renzo Piano, is also nearby.
We will make maximum use of public transportation—including the city’s new water taxis—focusing on the new and the modern during the day, and on the old and the historic at night…including cocktails and meals in Vieux Lyon.
Many of France‘s finest chefs are in the city and two great wine-growing regions are nearby: Beaujolais and Côtes du Rhône. Lyon is home to many traditional restaurants, known as bouchons, serving local dishes and wines.
Participants will gain a real sense for Lyon’s origins, history, culture and future.
Conference attendees are responsible for booking accommodations. A list of suggested hotels has been assembled by the conference organisers. Lyon also has a very active Airbnb community.
