I would like to offer my best wishes to you, your families, and colleagues for a joyful and healthy new year. This coming new year offers a fresh opportunity to address the challenges that confront us as planners in Europe, the USA and globally. With our ever-increasing membership of international architects, our Continental Europe chapter begins strong in 2019, hopefully with the optimism and will to elevate our shared environment through conscious design.
I won’t kid you. This optimism will be tested, and advocacy begins with awareness and understanding the issues and difficulties that face us. Fortunately, we as an institution stand together, sharing the same common values, which support equity and human rights, standing for a sustainable future, addressing the powerful impact of global climate change, and supporting a quality of life for the public good through responsible planning practices. We recognize and place our trust in science, which enables us to provide energy-saving and environmentally sound facilities, addressing our ever/changing climate with real solutions. Architects are visionaries and problem solvers.
Our Continental Europe chapter will be offering an exciting lineup of educational conferences and events this year, bringing our American institute together with local planners and decision makers throughout Europe. We will be working together to address our pending global issues through dialogue, visiting exciting and innovative buildings with their respective planners, and offering opportunities for architectural students and young professionals to
participate and interact with our members.
Finally, we will be supporting our institution by encouraging our members to confront policymakers, locally and globally, with their concerns. Our voices as architects are essential for designing a better future for our planet.
