Istanbul and the UIA World Congress

The AIACE Southern Europe Section Director, Architect Dr. Ahmet Vefik Alp, AIA IAA TMMOB, invites Continental Europe members to participate in events associated with the UIA World Congress in Istanbul, Turkey.

The UIA program is from 3-10 July. AIACE events span three days within that time.

05 July 2005 Tuesday

Site Visit to the Institute of Technology

One hour from the city center, Architect Dr. Ahmet Vefik Alp will guide a tour in conjunction with the UIA Science and Hi-tech Facilities Group led by Israeli architect Moshe Zarhy. About 40-50 persons can be accommodated.

A private bus will depart at 10h30 from the Dolmabahce area, a central location on Istanbul’s European side. After crossing the Bosporus bridge, the group will reach the site on the Asian side near Izmit Gulf at approximately 11h30.

The program includes a presentation by the architect, tour of the campus and a complimentary lunch by the building contractor. Return to Dolmabahce will be around 16h00.

Space is limited. Members willing to take part in this informative and relaxed event should register their names by June 30 with the office of Architect Dr. Ahmet Vefik Alp (see below). Confirmation of your reserved place will be by email.

International Academy Of Architecture Forum: “Tendencies Of Architecture”

This full day event will take place at the Bahcesehir University Besiktas Building on the Bosporus Corniche in Besiktas. (This is one of the official sites of the UIA 2005 for parallel events.)

10 Distinguished members of the Academy will deliver lectures on their own work and trends in contemporary architecture. Admission is free.

International Academy Of Architecture Exhibition: “Leading Masters of World Contemporary Architecture”

In the same venue, a unique exhibit from 3-7 July comprising outstanding work of 100 top architects of the world. A great exhibit which should not be missed. Admission is free.

AIACE Dinner

Hosted at the splendid Bosporus (European) side restaurant Pruva, with the compliments of AIACE Southern Europe Director and sponsor Mesa Mesken Co., Turkey.

The restaurant is located near the Rumelihisari Fortifications on the Bosporus (European) side. It is easily accessible from the Bosphorus Corniche road, above the Kemalettin Mosque in Rumelihisari. You have to walk some 30 steps up from sea level.

Direct car access is possible from the rear hillside. Streets are somewhat intricate, yet there are signs on every turn as you approach the location. Taxis will find it easily. In this case you will have to walk some 30 steps down from the parking lot.

Starting at 20h00, the dinner will include honored guests, the US Consul General in Istanbul and wife, US Cultural Attache and wife in istanbul, colleagues from the International Academy of Architecture, outstanding architects and some local colleagues.

First consideration for seating will be given to the AIA President and his wife, the AIA delegation attending UIA 2005 and members of the AIACE Board. Space is limited to 100 persons.
