Theme:

Youth Space & Urban Transformation

General Information/ Mission:

AIA Europe, together with the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Pristina, is organizing a student Charrette concurrent with the Spring 2018 Conference, Youth Space & Urban Transformation in Pristina, Kosovo. With this, AIA Europe aims to provide knowledge, mentors, and the final jury from the AIA Europe membership and invited guests.

AIA Europe’s mission with this event is to share knowledge and to promote an open exchange between international architects and students, crossing generational and cultural boundaries. 

The Charrette is generously supported by LAUFEN Bathrooms, a long-time sponsor of AIA Europe.  The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Pristina is providing studio space, equipment for the use of the students during the event.  

The brief and plans will be shared with students and mentors.  Site visit will take place in Pristina, on April 5th 2018 with the project kickoff by University and AIA Europe mentors.

Purpose:

The city of Pristina currently lacks public spaces in general, and spaces for youth in particular. The goal of this Charrette is to transform the identified locations into youth public spaces, by introducing creative ideas and urban elements that would create gathering points for the youth. In addition, it will aim to increase the variety and the quality of public spaces offered throughout the city.

Sites:

The Student Dormitory Complex has been selected as a site location for the Student Charrette proposals. All teams are challenged to develop ideas and propose a design solution for this site.

Teams will visit the assigned location, take photographs and notes.

Submission:

Submissions must be in English language. They should include graphic representation (as needed: site plans, elevations, sections, diagrams and sketches, etc) and should also include a brief text of approx. 200 words. 

Evaluation:

Proposals can be submitted in hand drawn or digital form (JPEG or PDF), or a combination of both. Format of entries is to correspond to one exhibition panel of A0 landscape format. This will be used for the exhibition as well. The charrette tutors will guide the student teams to on developing presentations.

Exhibition:

Projects will be displayed during the Conference in an exhibition at the Conference venue as well as at the local university. Winners will be announced at Conference.
