AIA Europe Eastern Section Director at The World Architecture Festival
AIA Europe Eastern Section Director Bard Rama was one of 50 speakers at The World Architecture Festival, which took place from November 16th - 18th in Berlin, Germany. Bard, who has worked with refugee / displaced housing rebuilding programs under the IRC and currently doing PhD research on sustainable residential complexes, presented a lecture about these themes and participated in a panel discussion titled "Temporary Housing – Refugee Response." Berlin Section Event Video Online: To BIM or Not To BIM Symposium
In addition to its international conference series, AIA Europe organizes regional 'section events' for members to exchange with their local professional communities. The most recent section event took place on September 2, 2016 in Berlin, Germany: a panel discussion and forum titled, "To BIM or not to BIM" organized in conjunction with ANCB The Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory. AIA Europe's Germany Section Director, Gabriela Liebert, Assoc. AIA, gave the introductory remarks to the lively and well attended discussion. AIA Europe visits Best Tall Building of Europe: White Walls in Nicosia, Cyprus
A key site visit at the latest AIA Europe Conference Girne/ Kyrenia: Communicating Across Cultures was recently named Best Tall Building of Europe by The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. White Walls, by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, was awarded the prize at the CTBUH Awards Symposium and Dinner on November 3, 2016 in Chicago. Day three of the Conference took attendees to the Cyprus capital of Nicosia, where Nice Day Developments LTD (building owner and developer), Takis Sophocleous Architects (Architect of Record), and E&Y (primary tenant) gave a private tour of White Walls' offices and apartments. Architect Demetris Sophocleous presented a lecture about the tower's construction and performance.
